What to Wear on a Video Podcast

Yes, people search this. And for good reason. What you wear on camera matters more than you think.
Here are the rules.
Wear solid colors. Solid colors look clean and professional on camera. They do not distract from your face or your message. Navy, black, emerald, burgundy, white, and warm neutrals all work great.
Avoid tiny patterns. Thin stripes, small checks, and herringbone patterns create a visual vibration on camera called moire. It looks terrible on video. If you can see the pattern from 10 feet away, it is fine. If you have to get close to see it, skip it.
Dress one level up from your audience. If your audience wears t-shirts, wear a nice button-down. If they wear business casual, wear a blazer. You want to look polished but approachable.
Skip all-white on a white set. If the studio has a light background, an all-white outfit will wash you out. Similarly, avoid all-black on a dark set. Create some contrast between you and the background.
Accessories are fine, just keep them quiet. Bangles, chain necklaces, and dangling earrings can create noise that the microphone picks up. If it makes sound when you move, leave it at home.
Bring a backup outfit. This sounds extra but it saves sessions. If your first choice does not look right on camera, having a second option means you do not lose recording time.
